Each year more and more injured raptors are brought to falconers for treatment. Usually, the falconer simply passes the bird along to a licensed rehabilitator or state-sponsored veterinarian (since falconers are normally not equipped or legally entitled to possess the birds). As most of us know, not all veterinarians are anxious to treat birds of prey. Following is a list of licensed raptor rehabilitators and veterinarians which are known by falconers to be knowledgeable about raptors. It should not be expected that the rehabilitators and veterinarians listed will charge less than their normal and customary charges for care and treatment.
The value of this list is directly dependent upon falconers submitting the names of veterinarians and rehabilitators who, in their experience, have the desire and knowledge required to properly handle and treat birds of prey. The names, business addresses, and business telephone numbers of California veterinarians and rehabilitators you would recommend to other falconers for treatment of their birds can be submitted to secretary@calhawkingclub.org.
Because this list is not yet comprehensive, information related to veterinary services and rehabilitation may be available from the University of Minnesota "Raptor Center." The Raptor Center's homepage is located at http://www.raptor.cvm.umn.edu.
